MoneyGram Payment Systems, Inc. ("MoneyGram") is committed to respecting and protecting your privacy. We value your trust and want you to understand how we protect, collect, use and disclose the personal information you share with us.
This privacy statement applies to personal information we obtain anytime you interact with MoneyGram such as when you visit our website at moneygram.com, complete transaction forms or contact MoneyGram call centers. We want to ensure you are aware of our practices for collecting, using, disclosing and processing personal information, which is information about a person that can be used to identify that person.
What we collect
The type of personal information we collect depends on our needed use such as to process transactions, provide products and services, and administer our business. Personal information includes contact information such as name, address, telephone number or email address; MoneyGram Rewards Program ("Program") account information such as Rewards number, user name and password; financial information including bank account information, or bank/credit card information; other identifying information such as passport or government identification number, or date of birth; transaction information such as name and other information about your recipient, transaction number, amount, date sent, receive data; and such other information we may collect with your consent or as permitted or required by law.
Generally, personal information is collected from you on transaction forms and by telephone to request product or services, including enrolling in the Program, and at our website to request information and to enroll or manage your Program membership and benefits. Your provision of personal information upon enrollment and participation in the MoneyGram Rewards Program is voluntary.
How we use it
We use personal information to complete your transaction; to administer any problems that may arise in effecting the transaction; to keep our records up to date; to better understand and manage our ongoing relationship with you; to assure good service; to manage and administer our business and records; to complete your enrollment in the MoneyGram Rewards Program; to administer and manage your Program membership and benefits;, for direct marketing purposes associated with the MoneyGram Rewards Program (including third- party materials sent by MoneyGram) unless you tell us that you would not like to receive it; for market research; to manage, administer, collect or otherwise enforce accounts; to maintain business records for reasonable periods; to meet legal, regulatory, insurance, security and processing requirements; to prevent fraud and abuse and other actual and potential prohibited or illegal activities, and otherwise with consent or as permitted or required by law. As permitted by applicable law, we may merge personal information with public information or other information received from reputable vendors, to update contact information.
MoneyGram may store personal information on databases outside Canada, including in the United States, for these purposes. Personal information will be subject to the laws of the country in which it is located including lawful access requests by government authorities.
Who we share it with
We may share all of the information, as described above, with our affiliates and/or our agents to assist us in our business activities for the uses described in "How we use it", and for other purposes as permitted or required by applicable law. Disclosures permitted or required by law include cooperation with criminal or government investigations, fraud prevention and detection, and responses to a court order or subpoena. If fraud is suspected in your money transfer, MoneyGram will share your money transfer information with relevant national, state and local law enforcement in the US and other countries, which may further share the information. In limited situations, our agents and affiliates may use information about you to offer products and services to you in compliance with their privacy policy. MoneyGram affiliates and agents are bound by appropriate data safeguarding obligations. Our agents and affiliates are located across the globe, where they may be subject to required legal disclosure of collected personal information to governmental authorities.
MoneyGram may disclose some or all of the personal information to service providers for the purposes of processing requested transactions or to perform business support functions on our behalf including marketing and similar services. Our agreements with these service providers, who may be located outside of Canada, contain confidentiality provisions and restrictions on using this information for any other purposes.
If MoneyGram becomes involved in a proposed or actual merger, acquisition or any form of sale of some or all its assets, we may use and disclose personal information to third parties in connection with the evaluation of the transaction. The surviving company would have access to personal information, which would continue to be subject to this privacy statement.
Choice and Consent
Consent to the collection, use and disclosure of personal information may be given in various ways. Consent can be express (for example, orally, electronically or on a form you may sign describing the intended uses and disclosures of personal information) or implied (such as when you provide information necessary for a service you have requested). You may provide your consent in some circumstances where notice has been provided to you about our intentions with respect to your personal information and you have not withdrawn your consent for an identified purpose ,such as by using an “opt-out” option provided, if any. When you provide us with personal information about a third party, we assume you have any necessary consent from that individual to provide us with that personal information. Generally, by providing us with personal information, we will assume that you consent to our collection, use and disclosure of such information for the purposes described in this privacy statement or otherwise at the time of collection.
MoneyGram Rewards members have choices as to how we communicate with you for marketing purposes. You may choose not to receive direct marketing offers sent by post mail, email, SMS or phone from MoneyGram. Your choice applies to marketing offers from us and select companies chosen for the MoneyGram Rewards Program. You may also log onto at www.moneygram.com and update your choices. You can also call MoneyGram Customer Service at is 1-800-926-9400. Please allow at least 4 weeks for processing. In any vent, each communication received will give you the opportunity to opt-out from the disclosure of your personal information. For example, each email promotional message we send will also contain instructions on how to unsubscribe.
You may withdraw your consent to our collection, use and disclosure of personal information at any time, subject to contractual and legal restrictions and reasonable notice by using one of the methods listed under "Contacting MoneyGram". Note that if you withdraw your consent to certain uses of your personal information, we may no longer be able to provide certain of our products or services, including membership in the MoneyGram Rewards Program. Note also that where we have provided or are providing services to you, your consent will be valid for so long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this privacy statement or otherwise at the time of collection, and you may not be permitted to withdraw consent to certain necessary uses and disclosures (e.g. maintaining reasonable business and transaction records).
Accuracy & Access
MoneyGram wants to ensure that the information we obtain and use about you is accurate for its intended purpose and therefore we have processes to help maintain the accuracy o f the personal information we collect. You can request access to your personal information or help us maintain accurate records by informing us of changes or modifications to your personal information by using one of the methods listed under "Contacting MoneyGram". In addition MoneyGram Rewards members may log onto our web site to review and correct information about yourself.
We will also take reasonable steps to verify your identity before granting you access or enabling you to make corrections. MoneyGram will retain personal information for the time period needed for business purposes or as required by law and will ensure secure destruction thereafter.
Data Security
MoneyGram uses physical, electronic and procedural security measures to protect against loss, misuse, and alteration of personal information under our control. MoneyGram uses industry–standard practices and security measures to safeguard such information.
Access to personal information is restricted to employees, service providers and mandataries who need to have access to that information as described in this privacy statement. Our service providers are required to observe standards for the security, collection, use and sharing of personal information, and to comply with applicable law.
Preventing Identity Theft
MoneyGram is dedicated to protecting your personal information. We will never initiate a request for personal information or request your Money Transfer reference number from you by fax or email. Please do not send personal information such as social insurance numbers, government identification numbers, or account numbers to MoneyGram via an unsecured email message. You may send personal information to MoneyGram via posted mail or using the "Contact Us" link available on our website.
Do not be misled by emails that appear to be from us and ask for personal information. If you receive a suspicious email requesting your personal information, please forward the email immediately to fraud@moneygram.com. To report fraud to the Internet Fraud Complaint Center, you may contact your local MoneyGram agent or visit www.ic3.gov/. This is a partnership between The FBI and the United States of America National White Collar Crime Center.
Browsing
When you use our websites we automatically collect certain standard technical information. Examples of this standard type of information include the type of Internet browser you use, the files you requested and the domain name and country from which you request information. We use this information to improve our website, make our website function correctly, and to better understand how visitors use our website. As part of our efforts to protect customers from fraud, this information is also used to authenticate users to the website, if necessary.
